When you go to buy bread in the grocery store, have you ever wondered which is the freshest, so you "squeeze" for freshness or softness? Did you know that bread is delivered fresh to the stores five days a week? Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Each day has a different color twist tie. They are: Monday = Blue, Tuesday = Green, Thursday = Red, Friday = White and Saturday = Yellow. So if today was Thursday, you would want red twist tie; not white which is Fridays (almost a week old)! The colors go alphabetically by color Blue- Green - Red - White - Yellow, Monday through Saturday. Very easy to remember. I thought this was interesting. I looked in the grocery store and the bread wrappers DO have different twist ties, and even the ones with the plastic clips have different colors. You learn something new everyday! Enjoy fresh bread when you buy bread with the right color on the day you are shopping

Bee/Hornet  Cure:

I wanted  to share this marvelous information in case you may be experiencing the same problem around your home/garden....

A couple  of weeks ago I was unfortunate enough to get stung by both a bee and  hornet while working in the garden.  My arm swelled up so off to the  doctor I went. The clinic gave me cream and an antihistamine.  The  next day the swelling was getting progressively worse so off to
my regular  doctor I went. The infected arm needed an antibiotic.
** The  interesting thing is what the Doctor told me...."The  next time you get stung put a penny on the bite for 15 minutes."
That night  my niece got stung by two bees. When she came over to swim I looked at the bite  and it had already started to swell. So off I went to get my money and taped a  penny to her arm for 15 minutes. The next morning, there was no sign of a  bite.  We were very surprised but figured perhaps she just wasn't allergic  to the sting.  Then guess what? I got stung again - by a hornet - twice -  on my left hand.  I was so distressed, thinking I would have to go to the  doctor for yet another antibiotic.  I promptly  went into the house, got my money out, and taped two pennies to my bites, then sat and sulked for 15 minutes. The penny took the sting out of the bite  immediately.  I still wasn't sure what was going to happen.
In the meantime the  hornets were attacking my niece and she got stung on the thumb.  Out came another penny. The next morning I could only see a micro spot where I had been stung...  No redness, no swelling.  I went to see my niece and hers was the same.  I couldn't even see where she got stung!
The  Doctor said that somehow the copper in the penny counteracts the bite. I would  never have believed it.  But it DEFINITELY WORKS!

So  remember this little bit of wisdom, keep a stock of pennies on hand at school  and at home, and pass this on to your friends, children, grandchildren

Try this for coughing.  Big Sneeze

 VICKS VAPORUB...TRY IT, IT WORKS

When we had a lecture on Essential Oils, they told us how the foot soles can absorb oils. Their example: Put garlic on your feet and within 20 minutes you can 'taste' it. Some of us have used Vicks Vaporub for years for everything from chapped lips to sore toes and many body parts in between. But I've never heard of this. And don't laugh, it works 100% of the time although the scientists at the Canada Research council (who discovered it) aren't sure why.

To stop night time coughing in a child (or adult as we found out personally), put Vicks Vaporub generously on the bottom of the feet at bedtime, then cover with socks. Even persistent, heavy, deep coughing will stop in about 5 minutes and stay stopped for many, many hours of relief. Works 100% of the time and is more effective in children than even very strong prescription cough medicines. In addition it is extremely soothing and comforting and they will sleep soundly.

I heard the head of the Canada Research Council describe these findings on the part of their scientists when they were investigating the effectiveness and usage of prescription cough medicines in children as compared to alternative therapies like acupressure. Just happened to tune in AM. Radio and picked up this guy talking about why cough medicines in kids often do more harm than good due to the chemical makeup of these strong drugs so,I listened. It was a surprise finding and found to be more effective than prescribed medicines for children at bedtime, in addition to have a soothing and calming effect on sick children who then went on to sleep soundly.

Polly tried it on herself when she had a very deep constant and persistent cough a few weeks ago and it worked 100%! She said that it felt like a warm blanket had enveloped her, coughing stopped in a few minutes and believe me, this was a deep, (incredibly annoying!) every few seconds uncontrollable cough, and she slept cough-free for hours every night that she used it.

If you have grandchildren, pass it on. If you end up sick, try it yourself and you will be absolutely amazed by the effect.

I just received an email from another lady who had tried this suggestion on her husband's nagging cough.  She said it cleared it right up, and no more cough medicine for them.  It worked like a dream...

You just never know how simple it can be.

Subject: LISTERINE FOR MOSQUITOS

The best way of getting rid of mosquitoes is Listerine, the original medicinal type. The Dollar Store-type works, too. I was at a deck party awhile back, and the bugs were having a ball biting everyone. A man at the party sprayed the lawn and deck floor with Listerine, and the little demons disappeared. The next year I filled a 4-ounce spray bottle and used it around my seat whenever I saw mosquitoes. And voila! That worked as well. It worked at a picnic where we sprayed the area around the food table, the children's swing area, and the standing water nearby. During the summer, I don't leave home without it.....Pass it on.

OUR FRIEND'S COMMENTS: I tried this on my deck and around all of my doors. It works - in fact, it killed them instantly. I bought my bottle from Target and it cost me $1 .89. It really doesn't take much, and it is a big bottle, too; so it is not as expensive to use as the can of spray you buy that doesn't last 30 minutes. So, try this, please. It will last a couple of days. Don't spray directly on a wood door (like your front door), but spray around the frame. Spray around the window frames and even inside the dog house if you have one. Also can be used to dab any bites you receive. It will stop the itching quicker and go away faster

Very interesting!!!

Very Important ....especially for those who love to cook and eat
ONIONS!!!!!!

ONIONS

In 1919 when the flu killed 40 million people there was this Doctor that
visited the many farmers to see if he could help them combat the flu.
Many of the farmers and their family had contracted it and many died.
The doctor came upon this one farmer and to his surprise, everyone was very
healthy. When the doctor asked what the farmer was doing that was different
the wife replied that she had placed an unpeeled onion in a dish in the
rooms of the home, (probably only two rooms back then). The doctor couldn't
believe it and asked if he could have one of the onions and place it under
the microscope.  She gave him one and when he did this, he did find the flu
virus in the onion.  It obviously absorbed the bacteria, therefore, keeping
the family healthy.

Now, I heard this story from my hairdresser in NZ. She said that several
years ago many of her employees were coming down with the flu and so were
many of her customers. The next year she placed several bowls with onions
around in her shop. To her surprise, none of her staff got sick. It must
work. (And no, she is not in the onion business.)

The moral of the story is, buy some onions and place them in bowls around
your home. If you work at a desk, place one or two in your office or under
your desk or even on top somewhere. Try it and see what happens. We did it
last year and we never got the flu.
If this helps you and your loved ones from getting sick, all the better.  If
you do get the flu, it just might be a mild case.
Whatever, what have you to lose?  Just a few bucks on onions!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now there is a P. S. to this for I sent it to a friend in  Oregon  who
regularly contributes material to me on health issues. She replied with this
most interesting experience about onions:

Thanks for the reminder. I don't know about the farmer's story...but, I do
know that I contracted pneumonia and needless to say I was very ill...I came
across an article that said to cut both ends off an onion, put one end on a
fork and then place the forked end into an empty jar...placing the jar next
to the sick patient at night. It said the onion would be black in the
morning from the germs...  sure enough it happened just like that...the
onion was a mess and I began to feel better.

Another thing I read in the article was that onions and garlic placed around
the room saved many from the black plague years ago. They have powerful
antibacterial, antiseptic properties.

But here is the other important side to remember.

LEFT OVER ONIONS ARE POISONOUS

I  have used an onion which has been left in the fridge, and sometimes I
don't use a whole one at one time, so save the other half for later.

Now with this info, I have changed my mind.....will buy smaller onions in
the future.

I had the wonderful privilege of touring Mullins Food Products, Makers of
mayonnaise.  Mullins is huge, and is owned by 11 brothers and sisters in the
Mullins family.  My friend, Jeanne, is the CEO.

Questions about food poisoning came up, and I wanted to share what I learned
from a chemist.

The guy who gave us our tour is named Ed. He's one of the brothers Ed is a
chemistry expert and is involved in developing most of the sauce formula..
He's even developed sauce formula for McDonald's.

Keep in mind that Ed is a food chemistry whiz. During the tour, someone
asked if we really needed to worry about mayonnaise... People are always
worried that mayonnaise will spoil. Ed's answer will surprise you. Ed said
that all commercially- made Mayo is completely safe.

"It doesn't even have to be refrigerated. No harm in refrigerating it, but
it's not really necessary." He explained that the pH in mayonnaise is set at
a point that bacteria could not survive in that environment. He then talked
about the quint-essential picnic, with the bowl of potato salad
sitting on the table and how everyone blames the mayonnaise when someone
gets sick.

Ed says that when food poisoning is reported, the first thing the officials
look for is when the 'victim' last ate ONIONS and where those onions came
from (in the potato salad?). Ed says it's not the mayonnaise (as long as
it's not homemade Mayo) that spoils in the outdoors. It's probably the
onions, and if not the onions, it's the POTATOES.

He explained, onions are a huge magnet for bacteria, especially uncooked
onions. You should never plan to keep a portion of a sliced onion. He says
it's not even safe if you put it in a zip-lock bag and put it in your
refrigerator.

It's already contaminated enough just by being cut open and out for a bit,
that it can be a danger to you (and doubly watch out for those onions you
put in your hotdogs at the baseball park!)

Ed says if you take the leftover onion and cook it like crazy you'll
probably be okay, but if you slice that leftover onion and put on your
sandwich, you're asking for trouble. Both the onions and the moist potato in
a potato salad, will attract and grow bacteria faster than any commercial
mayonnaise will even begin to break down.

So, how's that for news? Take it for what you will. I (the author) am going
to be very careful about my onions from now on. For some reason, I see a lot
of credibility coming from a chemist and a company that produces millions of
pounds of mayonnaise every year.'

Also, dogs should never eat onions. Their stomachs cannot metabolize onions
...

Please remember it is dangerous to cut onions and try to use it to cook the
next day, it becomes highly poisonous for even a single night and creates
Toxic bacteria which may cause Adverse Stomach infections because of excess
Bile secretions and even Food poisoning.

Please pass it on to all you love and care.
